Minneapolis-St. Paul Frontrunners offers four run/walks a week: Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings. The run/walks are followed social meal at a nearby restaurant. Runners and walkers of all ability levels are welcomed. Since some of our run/walks are seasonal, please see our calendar page or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if a run/walk is occurring.
Tuesday and Thursday run/walks
Tuesday and Thursday runs typically start at 6:30 pm (6:00 pm for long runs on Tuesdays, 6:15 in the fall; see below). (Check the calendar for the most current time information.) During the daylight savings time, the runs start at the parking lot of the Lake Calhoun Executive Center building (3033 Excelsior Blvd., Minneapolis) on the northwest corner of Lake Calhoun. We meet at either the silver direction sign or a locust tree about 50 ft away from the direction sign. Both are near the south entrance of the lot. (See bottom blue "pin" in map below. Top blue "pin" is the Lake Calhoun Executive Center building. Click on either blue "pin" to get directions.)
Runs are typically one loop of the lake which is 3.1 miles. Longer and shorter runs are possible. For longer runs, on Tuesdays, runners meet at 6:00 pm at the same location for a six-mile or longer run. Walkers typically walk one to one and half miles.
The post-run/walk meal is often at a restaurant within walking distance, such as Punch, Chiptole, and Noodles & Company. Occasionally, a restaurant further away is chosen or a runner, or walker has invited the group to have dinner at his or her home.
During standard time, we move indoors to the Metrodome for warmth and light. The dome run/walks begin in late November and end in March. (Start and end dates vary from year to year and are determined by the sports commission and the Minnesota Distance Runners Association (MDRA), who manages the use of the facility for running.)
To meet us, enter the dome at Gate D (see map below) and pay the MDRA volunteers $1.00. Proceed up the stairs to meet the group near section 215.
Saturday run/walks take place during the warmer months (typically April through October) and begin at 8:30 am at the Lake Calhoun Executive Center (the same location as the Tuesday/Thursday runs). On Saturdays, the participants decide how far and how fast they would like to run, and groups of different goals and abilities have their individual runs. Typically, the groups run one or more lakes, providing a variety of distances from 3.1 to 7 or more miles.
Sunday run/walks start at 10 am at the same location as the weekday runs, which is Lake Calhoun Executive Center parking lot, with the exception the last Sunday of the month where the run/walks move to Nicollet Island at De La Salle High School. (Check the calendar for the most current time information.) The Nicollet Island starting point provides access to paths and sidewalks along the Mississippi River. A brunch follows the run/walk usually at Egg and I on Lyndale Ave. S.
